“Melodies for Small Hands”
is a collection of pieces intended for my students (titles), who often encounter rhythmic difficulties, whether in placing eighth notes, or more regularly in placing syncopations.
The left-hand accompaniment is intentionally kept very basic in order to ensure precision between the two hands.
Musicality (of utmost importance) is left to the performer’s care. For this reason, no dynamic markings have been indicated. When sight-reading these pieces, it is necessary to think in an orderly way, that is: musicality first, then technique. A few directions are given (allegro, moderato, etc.) in order to guide the performer. There are no precise tempo markings so that the student may find the right feeling for themselves.
The “texture-drawings” that decorate the scores as well as the cover were created by Louis, Ethan, Tobias, and Thifaine (my grandchildren).
